I know, it’s not the pound I planned to lose this week, its only 0.6 lbs down this week, but it is still a loss so I am happy. Most of the week went well actually. I can’t complain. I hit my exercise and calorie counts as planned and maintained my schedule. The only thing I can think of is that it might be time to adjust again. Every little while I’ll notice that the same exercise isn’t producing the same results. It usually means I need to shake things up a bit and do something different.
Admittedly part of this could be because of the heat. I was walking ouside as my primary calorie burning activity. Since the bulk of the walking trail is shaded it has been fine for most of the summer, as long as I avoid walking in the hottest part of the day and drink loads of water.
This week the combination of heat and humidity sent me scurrying for the treadmill. I tried walking outside Monday morning and came back with a shirt wet enough to wring and a thirst like a dehydrated camel. While neither of those are particularly bad, I also had that super hot yet light headed feeling that any longer outside and heat sickness would be on the way. So to the treadmill.
I’ll leave the sun stroke for mad dogs and the English.
However while I walked my normal speed and time, I also walked flat without adding any ups and downs to the treadmill. My walking trail has hills. So I will adjust that and maybe tweak my routine for the upcoming week. The bulk of the weekend is my semi-annual closet clean and purge. While it is far too warm to put the summer clothes away and take the fall and winter stuff out of their seasonal storage, it is time for prep work to begin.
Over the summer my clothes tend to take a beating. There is the normal wear and wash break down, but there is also the workouts and the gardening to take into account. Both do a number on the wardrobe. Many of the cheap cotton t-shirts I picked up in the spring now look disreputable enough that I don’t want to wear them to the gym. Although I am ashamed to admit it, some of these shirts get pulled out of the drawer and put on. I then look at them and say ‘oh no’ and take them off again. They get put in the laundry basket and I take out a less disreputable shirt. Then they go through the laundry with the rest and the process repeats.
The waste, I know.
So now they will be hauled out of the drawer and putin the rag bag to use as cleaning cloths and not as garments. Their reincarnation begins.
In addition to ditching the disreputable I will spend the weekend trying on things in the closet, both things that fit me at the beginning of the summer and things that didn’t quite fit me then. Items too large, but not disreputable will be sent to charity while the things that now fit take pride of place in my closet. It also means there is less to worry about when I bring out the cooler weather clothes.
I know, the excitement never ends at my place.
Although I mock, the weeks are so crazy that having the weekend down time to do things at home is kind of nice. And as much as I love my weekly scheduling, I really love those weekends where nothing is really scheduled and I just have one or two things I’d like to get done. That way if I feel like curling up and losing a few hours mid day to a good book I can. Currently I am reading The Lost City of the Monkey God by Douglas Preston. It’s really good and I hope to finish it this weekend. Maybe then I’ll stop having strange dreams about attacking Fer-de-lance snakes.
Seriously though, snakes aside, it is a really good book about both difficult archaeology, legends and the political realities of hard to reach sites. Plus it has that whole searching for a lost city in the depths of the jungle vibe going for it. I loved those kind of books as a kid. This is a more grown up and less salacious version that has the added benefit of being true (although you do get a couple of archaeologists who get pouty because they were left out, so that’s fun too)
