On January 12th a package from Color Wow arrived on my doorstep filled with products for me to try. I am very grateful for the company for sending them to me to try out. It was a wonderful selection of products to try.
In fact I began trying the Color Wow Color Security Shampoo and conditioner that very night. I wanted to try it on my hair as I had an only faded box dye in my hair at the time and was planning to use the e-salon dye in the near future. I wanted to see how the product worked on my faded color as well as with the new.
In case you can not tell from the photos, my hair is thick and my hair is long. I know shocking with the photos right there but sometimes my darlings, the obvious needs to be stated.
The first thing I noticed when using the shampoo and conditioner set was how little product I really needed to wash and condition my hair. I quarter sized amount of the clear shampoo and the same of the white and creamy conditioner were all that was needed to get my hair clean.
And my hair felt clean. It felt clean all the way down to the scalp. One of this set’s claims is that it removes buildup from other products from the scalp. I use a wide variety of styling products and I have to say I was impressed with the way this set took down the residue on my scalp. While I do use a weekly hair mask and occasional scalp masks, for the most part during my trial of the Color Wow Color Security Shampoo and Conditioner I only used hair masks and skipped the scamp themed masks.
I did use the ESPA Pink Hair and Scalp Mud mask this weekend but I had already formed my opinions about this sets ability to remove buildup.
And my opinion is that it does work really well in this capacity.
However as you may have noticed the set’s official name is the Color Wow Color Security Shampoo and Conditioner.
So how did it do securing my color?
Really well actually. It initially perked up the faded box dye and made me feel much better about the faded color. Admittedly it also made it more evident how long my roots had grown, but the shampoo really can’t be blamed for that. Post eSalon dye, This shampoo was fantastic in maintaining the color. Now I will say that I pushed the color past the refresh by date as well.
First of all I wanted to see how the color stayed even beyond the time when I knew I should dye it. Secondly, I picked up some root touch up from eSalon that i wanted to try out. I also picked up a color enhancer designed to perk up fading dye that I have been holding off using until I finished the Color Security Shampoo and Conditioner.
I will say that I didn’t actually feel I needed a color boost throughout this process. While my roots have grown and the grays are showing, the color has remained quite lovely throughout the use of the shampoo and conditioner.
I quite honestly just really enjoyed using it. The scent of the shampoo and conditioner was very salon-esque. A part of me wanted a little bit of scent with it, but as both products are made without extra fragrances or dyes (or sulfates or parabens or phthalates for that matter), I understood why it was a salon scent rather than a fruity or floral. After about a week or so I got used to the scent and really stopped thinking about it. It became a non-scent if that means anything to you. It just became the scent of clean hair.
Of course I have also been using the Color Wow Dream Cocktail -coconut infused (which I am now head over heels in love with) so my hair did end up with a more tropical scent to it. Incidentally, I am not the biggest fan of coconut scents in the world and while this comes on coconut forward, the coconut fades and you only occasionally get a whiff of the tropics. It makes you think longingly of warm vacations and less like you’ve dipped your hair in someone’s pina colada.
But the post shower products aren’t the point (although I highly recommend checking out the Dream Cocktail line.)
While I enjoyed using the Color Security Shampoo and Conditioner and I loved how soft and manageable it made my hair feel, the thrifty center of my soul was thrilled by how long this set lasted. My first use of this set was the night of January 12th. My last use of this set was last night March 23rd. Because I needed to use so little product, this shampoo really lasted. With my hair if I can stretch a regular sized bottle to six weeks I am doing really well. I tend to wash my hair every other day and use dry shampoo in between washes. I just have a lot of hair. With the Color Wow Color Security Shampoo I managed to use it for about nine weeks.
I know that isn’t usually a part of a product review but the length of time I was able to use the product added value to me and made a great product even better. The fact is that you can get some pretty good and relatively inexpensive shampoos and conditioners at the drugstore. This Color Wow Color Security Shampoo is $23 and the Conditioner is $24. For me to spend the extra to purchase a luxury shampoo and conditioner it has to meet two main criteria.
It has to work better than the standard product I pick up at the drug store and it has to make me feel like i am getting value for my money.
This Color Wow Color Security Shampoo and Conditioner Set hits on both counts. It worked better than any product I have tried in the past from the drugstore. It met all of the claims that it made on the product page. And because I used so little of it, The product lasted long enough for me to feel that I was definitely getting really good value for the price.
But sadly the tubes are now empty. They have been moved to my empties bin and are awaiting the end of the month review. while I have several other products I need to try out, I will be circling back to this and placing an order for another set of the Color Wow Color Security Shampoo and Conditioner. This is far from the last appearance they will make in my bathtime line up.
