The Perfume Review: Earth Eau de Toilette by Zents

Before we begin I know I am going to call this perfume throughout. I am going to try to remember not to, but I’m sure I will slip up. what’s the difference you may be asking. Essentially concentration. An Eau de parfum has a higher concentration of perfume oils than an eau de toilette. The latter tend to be more gentle in scent, which considering gentle and not overpowering scents are sort of the lane the brand Zents prefers makes the choice of toilette instead of parfum a logical one.

Recently I was sent the Eau De Toilette Sample Set by Zents so that I could try out and review the scents in their collection. They are all Eau de Toilettes as the name implies and the set includes ten scents in all. Each sample sized tube has enough product for at least two weeks of daily wear.

While I did an earlier post on the Sample set and I go into the details of it, I have to say I love sample perfume kits in general. while I will buy many things just to try out, perfumes and eau de toilettes aren’t on that list. I love trying out new scents, but I rarely purchase a full sized bottle without trying a sample first. Scent is simply too subjective. One person’s delight is another person’s downfall.

And while there are people out there who find a signature scent and stick with it, I could never choose just one. I want scents that echo my mood or the mood I want to create around me. I like looking at the scents I have available to me and choosing them as I do the clothing of the day. ‘Yes, this is the scent for today.’

And yes sometimes I have outfits that go with certain scents. I recently realized that I have a pair of shoes that every time I put them on I reach for the exact same perfume. I’m sure it is the mood that determines me choosing both but the pattern design in the shoes actually blend with the scent making them seem like they come from the same place.

I could never choose just one scent, just as I can never choose just one pair of shoes.

So I try a lot of perfumes out and I really appreciate when brands have sample collections.

It is especially nice with Zents as their scents are not only used in their Eau De Toilettes but in their bath and body products as well. And with a scent named Earth, it is probably better to test out the scent before you commit to an entire body care range.

Plus the scents all come in the lovely clean looking glass bottles. The Earth bottle has white marble looking accents on the squared off clear glass bottle. All of their bottles have similar accents with the detail of the marbling adjusted to the scent inside. For example the Fig looks as though the barble is more pinkish in nature. They are quite gorgeous and I could so easily see all of them arranged on a shelf in a stunning display.

But I am not just purchasing fabulous bottles I am purchasing scent and must try them out first so I will know if I will wear them or not. After all a scent you won’t wear is just an expensive decoration. And while I like a lot of scents I am trying to limit myself to items I will wear. As I have a weakness for glass it is sometimes difficult.

As there are ten scents to try out in this collection, I reached blindly into the organza bag and pulled one out at random last week. The scent I took out was Earth and I have been wearing it each day for the past week (regardless of what my shoes tell me).

Now I’ll admit, I didn’t quite know what to expect from the scent called Earth. I expected something, well, earthy. So I sprayed, sniffed and wore the scent for a few days before looking into the official description.

According to Zents, Earth is…

Strengthening & Clean
sandalwood, fir needle, bergamot, bay

Sparked by the fusion of healing and art, ZENTS EARTH Eau de Toilette becomes a potent potion as it reacts with your body’s natural chemistry. You are the artist, crafting a unique essence that invokes what is in your heart, inviting love, beauty, and joy, and drawing all of life’s most cherished gifts into the present moment. Apply EARTH Eau de Toilette on pulse points and heart area. Your radiance and warmth will bring the scent to life and make it uniquely yours.

ZENTS EARTH Eau de Toilette is pure perfection on its own. It is also fully compatible with other scents and products in the collection.

Create your signature blend by spraying each scent in the same spot on your wrist. Then, rub wrists together to blend.

While it gives you the basic notes, there is less flower speech surrounding the description than in many scents, which I both appreciate and miss. I have sometimes purchased scents based on the descriptions alone as they seem to lead me off into mysterious worlds. What can I say? I’m a writer, I like words.

I will also say that many of those scents have been disappointing once spritzed and sniffed so I actually do appreciate when a scent is willing to just lay out the notes for me and let me supply my own mental image.

I found this scent to be an interesting one. when first sprayed it comes on strong and then settles in. It gently fades throughout the day but I did notice that I could apply it in the morning and still find traces on my wrist at bedtime (or just before my evening shower, depending on the day). For the first few hours it was noticeable to other people but they tended to need to be rather close to me. In fact only my babydoll could detect it as everyone else was socially distant and the scent didn’t travel that far.

I may like a library of scents for myself but I know others may not wish to inhale the same scents so I like to keep my perfumes and eau de toilettes close to my skin and personal. This scent sits on the skin creating a personal scent that really doesn’t travel to others too much. while this means that it could be worn anywhere, for me the sandalwood makes it seem like a warm after work sort of scent.

The two most forward elements are sandalwood and bay. As I am not a fan of either bergamot or fir needle that was a bit of a relief to me. This scent treads the line between masculine and feminine (in the traditional scents, everyone is free to wear what they want in in fact I do have several “men’s colognes” in my perfume collection.) The scents are predominantly what I would associate with a men’s scent, spicy and a little on the cologne side, but there is a thread of floral delicately winding its way through.

It is a bit like sitting in a room with sturdily build wood and leather furniture while the bougainvillea wafts into the room through the open window.

Except that I’m pretty sure the bergamot is providing the floral and not the bougainvillea drowsing in the midday sun. However it is that sort of idea. a sort of blending of the masculine and feminine. I’m not entirely certain this is a scent for me. I found it interesting and I am looking forward to the possibility of blending it with some of the other scents when i reach the end of my first pass through the samples. I think that it would be an excellent scent to play around with blending.

I will say that once sniffing it and learning that there were bath related products with the same scent, my babydoll was interested. I put Earth on the list of Bath Truffles to order on my next order with Zents so that he can try it in a bath product and see if it is something for him. I think this may be a scent that appeals to him more than it does me.

Over all I am very pleased with the testing of the first sample in my Zents Sample set. While it may not make its way into my collection, I suspect bath products with the scent will make their way onto my babydoll’s products shelf. We’ll test with the bath truffle before looking into expanding. And I am very much looking forward to trying to blend this with other scents in the collection. I think with its balance between the traditional masculine and feminine lines it will be really fun to play with. I can’t wait to see what comes out of the Sample Collection bag to try for next week.
