Oh today is not sunny. In fact it hasn’t been sunny all weekend. It has been raining off and on for three days actually and the odds of getting a walk in are slim to none. The park is flooded and with the rain coming down in waves the odds of just walking around the neighborhood for a bit aren’t good.
Its the sort of day that makes me think my activity of choice should be Ark Building.
I suspect that this week’s weight loss activity will involve closely monitoring calories going in rather then burning them off through exercise.
Speaking of calorie consumption though, one of my favorite snacks is having a one day sale. Today is the 9th birthday for Chomps so they are having a sale today only.
They are great on the go snacks and who doesn’t like getting a great product at a bit of a discount?
Today has been mostly conference calls and working at my computer, so I decided to take advantage of the time on my own to try out the YC liquid blushes that came in this month’s IPSY glam bag plus. The colors are a bit bright for me so trying them when I don’t have in person meetings seemed like a good idea.
Foundation: Elf Acne Fighting Foundation
Bronzer: Ciate London Bamboo Bronzer
Highlighter: Milk and Honey Palette from Beauty Bakerie
Eyeshadow: Huda Beauty Rose Gold Remastered Palette
Mascara: Pat McGrath Labs Fetish Eyes Mascara
Setting Spray: Milani Make it last matte Setting Spray
Okay today I had a few new products to try so I basically went with products I know and like for the basics so that i didn’t have to worry about them. The Porefessional Primer is as always fabulous and a standard in my dressing table. The Elf Acne Fighting foundation is not only good but as I am working on clearing out the last of my breakouts it seemed like a good idea. Plus I like the way it looks. Again with the Ciate London Bronzer. It is still pretty new to me, but I really like the way it performs. It is buildable and blendable and rapidly becoming a bronzer I reach for automatically.
Now to the blush. I’ll be honest, the colors for these two kind of scared me a bit. One is a very orangey pink and the other is just orangey red. I had visions of clown makeup in my mind. They have doe foot applicators. I chose the darker reddish shade. I dotted two dos on each cheek and blended with my fingers. At first it came on clown makeup strong, then I blended it a little with my Huda Beauty Makeup sponge. and it mostly disappeared. I’ll be playing with this all week, but today it seemed to have two speeds. It was either bright clown spots or it vanished. Perhaps I didn’t put enough on, or I blended too harshly. I’ll work with it and see what I come up with throughout the week. Right now I am a bit on the fence about these blushes.
The milk and Honey palette i like thus far. I will be working with it this week too. I used the golden shade today and it blended well with my skin giving it a bit of a glow without looking like a stripe of shine. It blends well and I like it.
I chose the Huda Beauty Palette mostly because I was thinking about Huda Beauty today. I saw that Huda of Huda Beauty is going to be curating the next IPSY Glam Bag X (November). I was actually looking for details about October’s Glam Bag but there were fewer details. I think that may become a theme with IPSY. The glam bag has fallen into a bit of the Glam Bag X Shadow as they promote it. Which is nice if all you want is the quarterly bag. Hopefully with the price increase for the regular Glam Bag Plus going up ($28 instead of $25) next month they will pay more attention to it in the future. But that is a wait and see game.
I sort of forgot how pigmented the Huda Beauty Palette is so my eyes went very pink today. Luckily the Mischo Beauty Gloss is not very pigmented. It is a decent gloss. It isn’t sticky but the color is really very minimal.
I should talk about is the mascara before it is gone. I used the Pat McGrath Fetisheyes Mascara today. It is nearing the end of it’s life and will soon be removed from my dressing table. It is a good mascara. It is not my favorite though. Each time I use it I end up thinking, its good but not really worth the price. I like it, but as there are several other mascaras that I like better, some at comparable price points and others less expensive, once it is gone I won’t be repurchasing it. It is one of those mascaras that I will use if it is here and came in a subscription box, but wouldn’t purchase on my own.
To seal everything in I reached for the Milani Make it last matte setting spray. It is a good setting spray, although I don’t care for the scent. It is a bit on the perfume-y side. It does lock makeup in really well though. When using it, hold it a good distance from your face as it does have a powerful spray and if held too close it can leave traces in your powder and foundation. I ended up using my makeup sponge to kind of smooth out the setting spray effects today.
Over all it isn’t a bad look, I don’t think. I went a little heavier on the eyeshadow than I planned, but I can live with that. The blush will need a little more thinking about before i pass judgement. But judgement will come at the end of the week. For now, I need to get back to work as Monday paperwork is calling.
