The Skincare Line up: November 19th, 2021

Good morning my darlings. This is going to be in interesting line up because it is the line up before I switch to travel products. When looking at the products on my skincare shelf I realized that most of them are currently full sized items. There is even a pump top cleanser that i certainly will not be traveling with. Not that I don’t love the cleanser, but I just try not to travel with pump tops. Even if you manage to lock it down and keep it locked down, there is always the possibility that somethin will fall into it and damage the pump causing problems later down the line. So my plan is to use the products I have in my line up until I pack to go away for Thanksgiving. I will use all of the products I plan to take with me the Wednesday before I leave to make certain that i have no adverse reactions. I will then pack them used them while I am gone and then continue using them until they are finished. Then I’ll switch back to my full sized products.

If that makes sense.

So before my current skincare line goes on hiatus for a week, let’s look at what we have and how it is currently performing.

The Daytime Lineup

Deodorant: Native Deodorant Cherry and Vanilla Macaroon

Cleanser: Elemis Balancing Lime Blossom Cleanser

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

Toner: Thayers Facial Toner Rose Petal

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: Vitabrid C12 Dual Drop Serum

Eye cream: Verso Super Eye Serum with Retinol 8

Moisturizer: Astaxanthin Collagen all in one gel from DHC

The majority of the products used in the morning line up are holdovers from last week. The toner and moisturizer are new but the rest are products already in use. The deodorant still smells a bit like cherry pie when I move around. It isn’t a bad scent, but I don’t think I will be purchasing this again. I still have high hopes that I can find the Native Peppermint as it is a Holiday scent and my absolute favorite. I liked it a lot last year and may be stocking up. Providing I can find it. The Cherry scent may be a holiday scent as well. It is nice, but not one I would want often.

The elemis Cleanser is fantastic. As it is a cleansing milk it doesn’t foam up all that much when I wash and I do kind of miss that, even though I know it isn’t that essential. The scent of the cleanser does make up for it though as it is a fantastically fresh scented clean.

Crest, recommended by my dentist and loved by my teeth. I don;t know what sort of detoxifying my gums needed to do, but with the deep clean my mouth gets, I’m happy to let them get on with it.

The bottle of Thayers toner is new to the line up, but not new to me. It was for a really long time, my go to toner. witch Hazel was a big thing in my house growing up and my skin recognizes it’s old friend. I know some of you are seeing the Rose Petal in the name and thinking it must smell perfume-y and very rosy, but it doesn’t. The rose more or less counteracts the witch hazel scent so that the product has very little scent at all. It works just as well as it always has and I am happy to have rotated a new bottle into my line up for the moment.

The 111Skin essence, Vitabrid C12 Serum and Verso Eye Serum are doing fabulously well. At the moment my skin looks and feels fantastic and I think that all three of these products play a roll in that.

The new moisturizer is interesting. I am currently researching the main ingredient, Astaxanthin, but i still need to look into it a little more. I rolled this moisturizer in when I ran out of the sample sizes of both my night and day creams. The gel claims to be for both night and day use and since i knew I was soon to open travel creams I figured I would open this and just use it for both.

It is an orange colored cream that quite frankly doesn’t smell of much. It is however far too thick for me to use during the day. I used it this week, but had to be very careful, using only very small amounts. I used it at night and it was fantastic. I’ll cover the night use below with the night products, but I think I am going to be very light with the day time use until I switch to my travel products and then once I switch out of travel products and back into my regular line up, there will be a new day cream rolled in to replace this. it is simply too heavy for day time wear for my skin type. If I had drier sklin I might be able to use it both day and night. But alas, I can not.

And so, shall we switch to the night?

The Nighttime Line up

Cleanser: Elemis Balancing Lime Blossom Cleanser

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

Toner: Thayers Facial Toner Rose Petal

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: Vitabrid C12 Dual Drop Serum

Eye cream: Verso Super Eye Serum with Retinol 8

Night Cream: Astaxanthin Collagen all in one gel from DHC

Lip Mask: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry

Again the only changes to the night time line up are the Toner and the Moisturizer. I know the Prai Cream is in the photo, but I moved it into the skin care shelf so that i can start using it tonight and add it to the upcoming week’s skincare list. I haven’t actually opened it, I just didn’t want to forget about it. I will be taking before photos tonight and then start to use it to see how it performs. I’m actually quite excited about trying it out. But that is not for this post.

So the Thayers performed just as well at night as it did in the day. Indeed everything else on the list performed just as well in the night as it did in the day. the exception is of course the moisturizer.

The DHC moisturizer is a thick cream. It is a gel cream though so even though it is thick it doesn’t feel heavy. It does however take a while to absorb into the skin. After applying my moisturizer I needed to wait at least half an hour before laying down or my cheek sort of stuck to my pillow a little bit. Thus far that is the only night time problem. To be honest, I am really enjoying this as a night cream. Giving it that half hour is the part to remember. After that, I woke up in the morning and my skin felt hydrated but not greasy. The skin was soft and I really liked the way it felt and looked.

Admittedly i think the fact that it did hydrate so well at night contributed to the reason that I didn’t actually like it as a day time moisturizer. It just felt like too much to use it again in the day time. I still needed a day time moisturizer, but this was not it. It is fantastic at night, just not for double duty use. For me that is not a deal breaker. I actually don’t mind having separate products for day and night time use. Mostly because my skin has different needs during the day than it does at night. At night I need a moisturizer that will sink in, repair any damage and leave me to wake up with hydrated skin. In the day time I need hydration that can sit under makeup without causing problems. The DHC cream does not sit well under makeup. It is great for night time hydration.

It is good to know your strengths. In skincare it is good to know what products do well so you can deploy them appropriately in the skincare battlefield.

Now I know.

As these are all full sized products, I will be using them through Tuesday night, then setting them aside for my Holiday travel skincare. As I mentioned above, once I return i will finish out the samples and then switch back into this line up and continue using it to really see how they perform. And as they are full sized products there will be more in depth reviews coming soon. with all of the samples to keep track of I feel like I’ve gotten behind on some of my in depth reviews. I have a bunch of Hair care product reviews coming up, mostly because I will be styling my hair more with the holiday gatherings coming up so I’ll actually be using more products and tools. But we will be getting back into more in depth skincare reviews soon. The research has already begun.

But for now that is the skincare line up for this week. I know it is a bit placid, but what can I say, for the most part these are all good products that do their job well. It may not make for the most dramatic reviews, but it does make for good skin.

The Skincare Line up: November 12th, 2021

Ah Friday. We have reached the end of the week and what is that? Is that the scent of skincare in the air? I believe it is. That’s right it is my favorite time of week where I get to indulge in my love of skin care and tell you all about the products I am using. So are you ready to see the list? Great. We’ll start with the day time.

The Daytime Lineup

Deodorant: Native Deodorant Cherry and Vanilla Macaroon

Cleanser: Elemis Balancing Lime Blossom Cleanser

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: Vitabrid C12 Dual Drop Serum

Eye cream: Verso Super Eye Serum with Retinol 8

Moisturizer: Filorga Oxygen Glow Crème

The only truly new item on this list is the Elemis Balancing Lime Blossom Cleanser. I know, I planned to try out a sample sized cleanser, but after last week’s cleansing disaster I went straight for a brand that I love and trust. while there may be a few Elemis products where I might think , that’s not my favorite scent, the scent is never off enough that I won’t use the product and at no time have i ever had any sort of reaction to any Elemis product. With One cleanser last week having a scent that I just couldn’t get past and another actually causing an allergic reaction, I’ll admit, I went the safe route.

I did justify it by thinking that some of my cleansers in the travel size could be designated for Thanksgiving travel as the Elemis Cleanser is a pump and I really don’t like traveling with pumps. No matter what I do, it somehow never ends well.

While I have used many Elemis products before, this is not a cleanser I was familiar with. I tend to go for the foaming cleansers (I actually love the Elemis Superfood Foaming Cleanser) but I have weakness for Lime Blossom. It is just a fantastic scent in general. It is lightly floral with just hint of lime zest. Thee was a lime tree in one of the backyards of a house we lived in (we moved a lot – military family) and I remember thinking that when it bloomed it was the most fabulous scent in the world.

So fabulous scent meets skincare brand I love, how could I resist? This is a cleansing milk so there is almost no foaming. It goes on as a thin cream (smelling fabulous) is massaged in and rinsed off. It was fantastically cleansing and it took off the last remnants of my makeup very well without leaving my face stripped. This week for my ‘double cleanse’ I relied upon my Makeup Eraser (currently 35% off sitewide) to remove my makeup and then washed my face. Even when I am not officially using two products for a true double cleanse, I like removing my makeup before cleansing my skin. It removes more product before the cleanser hit sand I like the thought of actually cleansing my skin instead of simply washing the makeup off.

Plus my toner pads come off cleaner when I do both so that I actually feel like my cleanser is really doing it’s job.

And my toner did work well this week as always. I don’t think I will manage to get through another week with this toner and will have to rotate a new one in for next week. Thus Murad Toner is one that I will repurchase though. My skin enjoyed it and I really felt it was worth using.

Everything else performed up to expectations and with the exception of the moisturizer will continue to chug along into next week. (some of the items I’ll break out down in the night time list as there are a lot of repeats.).

The Filorga Oxygen Glow Cream finished up this morning. If I’m honest, there was barely enough of a sample left to finish out this morning, but I used the last drop of it. I really enjoyed this moisturizer and will happily pick it up to use again. I am putting it on the list of products I would like to try out in the full sized versions. It is one that I will be picking up at some point for a lengthy trial. While two weeks isn’t long enough to see real results, in these two weeks it has been a really great light weight day cream. It didn’t provide enough moisturize to be used at night, but I don’t mind having separate moisturizers so that didn’t bother me. It is most definitely a day cream for me though. If you have really dry skin, it might not be enough for you. If you have oily skin, you may be able to use it as more than a day cream. It was lightweight and absorbed well. I look forward to arranging a longer test in the future.

And with the wrap up of the .day time moisturizer, shall we peer into the darkness of night?

The Nighttime Line up

Cleanser: Elemis Balancing Lime Blossom Cleanser

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: Vitabrid C12 Dual Drop Serum

Eye cream: Verso Super Eye Serum with Retinol 8

Night Cream: One Kind Dream Cream Night Moisturizer

Lip Mask: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry

Okay, again the only newcomer is the Elemis Cleanser. It was fantastic and I am happy to keep it around. The 111Skin Essence is also a delightful addition to my line up. The scent brings a very spa like feel to my skincare ritual and it makes my skin feel as though it is opening up, The feeling is almost like feeling a cool breeze on your face when you weren’t really expecting it. As essences are designed to open your skin up to receive additional skincare I suppose that means it is doing it’s job. At the moment, I rather like it and am enjoying using it.

The Verso eye cream I love. I really can’t say enough good things about it. This may actually top the list of eye creams I have used this year. I know, for a while it looked like Perricone MD was going to take the prize this year, but it is now being edged out by Verso. Don’t get me wrong, Perricone MD is coming in as a close second. But the Verso just edges them out.

This week I used the One Kind Dream Cream again. I actually had two samples. they came in two separate subscription boxes actually. Upon first glance both tubes looked packed full of product, but once the seal was taken off there was barely a week’s worth of product in each tube. It was mostly air. So this was my second tube and my second week. Last night I finished the last of the night cream and will need a new product tonight.

From the to weeks I’ve used it, I think it is a good lightweight night cream. It has no real scent to it, which may be it’s strongest selling point. It isn’t a bad product. It just wasn’t really noteworthy. it worked well but I never found myself saying, wow this is a great night cream. Or looking in the mirror the next morning and thinking, that was a good product. Conversely I didn’t have any problems with it. It was just a middle of the road product. It provided moisture for the night.

I know, that’s it’s job. And perhaps if I did use it for longer then I might have seen some skin benefits that elevated it from just something that provided moisture. It is not a terribly expensive night cream and even though it wasn’t a spectacular product, I might go ahead and pick up a full size to try out and see if it is better. It is a $38 moisturizer making it the same price as the Olay Moisture Rich Moisturizer (usually $38 it is currently on sale for $28.99). If asked to choose between the two I would go in for the Olay every time. Even though the Olay isn’t a night cream, it provides just as much moisture as the night cream and to be honest when using that sample for two weeks I did wake up thinking, wow, my skin looks nice this morning. I’d still like to give the One Kind a try, but a full size is rather low on the list of purchase items. And before bed, the empty tube will be replaces with something new. I have no idea what that is yet, but I’ll find out before bed time.

As for now, this is the end of the skin care line up for this week. I know, with everything behaving properly it isn’t as dramatic. But quite honestly, sometimes, you don’t really want dramatic in your skin care. well dramatically reducing fine lines is nice. Perhaps I mean trauma rather than drama. After the itching eyelids from last week’s cleanser, I’m happy with the nice and easy week my skincare line up gave me this week.

Alyaka Beauty Advent Calendar Luxe 2020

The Skincare Lineup: November 5th, 2021

Ah November has arrived and with it a drasti temperature drop. This is the time of year where my moisturizers change over as my skin freaks out over the dry air pumping through the ventilation system. This week, the temps dropped ten degrees overnight twice taking us from the afternoon temps of mid sixties down to the low forties. It should be in the forties at this time of year. It was just so shocking to the system to have it all plunge down in one fell swoop.

Well, technically two fell swoops.

Oddly enough it wasn’t my moisturizers that gave me trouble this week. But let’s get into the skin care and we’ll se what we see.

The Daytime Lineup

Deodorant: Native Deodorant Cherry and Vanilla Macaroon

Cleanser: Neogen Dermalogy Foaming Cleanser

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: Vitabrid C12 Dual Drop Serum

Eye cream: Verso Super Eye Serum with Retinol 8

Moisturizer: Filorga Oxygen Glow Crème

Okay, We have all heard the phrase the squeaky wheel gets the grease? Well this week the one change in the line up was the cleanser and it was definitely the squeaky wheel in my routine. To sum up the rest of the line up, everything worked well. I enjoyed all of the other products. And my skin likes them.

The Neogen cleanse is another story. It comes out as a white cream. You put it on your face, add water and there is a minor foaming that sort of occurs as the cream dissolves. It cleans the skin fairly well. I tried to use to to wash makeup off later in the day and it wasn’t very good with mascara or dark lipstick, but it did fairly well with face products.

The thing is, I can’t take the smell. It smells like lemon scented toilet bowl cleaner. Not an industrial one, but more like the one with the gooseneck and the scrubbing bubbles on it. It is the not quite bleach background note that is covered up with faux lemon scent. I tried using it, I really did. At first I tried rolling in a different cleanser at night to limit the use of this cleanser to once a day. But it didn’t help. I have a friend who loves the brand and she just finished a cleanser. While I have enjoyed other products from the brand (and am currently enjoying their peeling mask) I cannot take this cleanser. So while I have only used it a few times, I am passing it on to someone else who will hopefully love it. I just can’t get past the scent of it to use t long enough to find out if my skin likes it. In general I like the brand, but this was just not a win for me. And as Cleanser is one of the most important elements of my routine, it is best if I just let this one go.

The Nighttime Line up

Cleanser: Mario Badescu Cleansing Oil

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: Vitabrid C12 Dual Drop Serum

Eye cream: Verso Super Eye Serum with Retinol 8

Night Cream: One Kind Dream Cream Night Moisturizer

Lip Mask: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry

This week there were two real changes to the nightly line up. This week I opened a sample of the One Kind Night cream. The sample tube had less than a week’s worth of product in it. Luckily my October Glossy Box came in late and it had a second sample in it, so i am going to roll that in as a replacement now that the first tube is empty. Hopefully it will have enough to get me through this upcoming week. The cream has no scent to it and it is quite moisturizing. It takes a while for it to fully absorb though so for about ten minutes after i apply it, I feel like my face is a little on the greasy side. After those ten minutes though it feels fine. Thus far i haven’t felt the need for a heavier cream, so it is moisturizing well. I have no problem using the second tube for a second week’s worth of product testing. I just don’t like that there was so little product in the tube to begin with. Other than that it seems okay.

As with the day time line up, I had issues with the cleanser. The Mario Badescu oil had no real scent to it, which I appreciated. It took off my makeup really well and rinsed off cleanly. I actually had no problems with the way it worked. However after two days I noticed my eyelids felt a little itchy after I washed my face. I didn’t think much of it, but then the next day it was worse. So I stopped using it and my eyelids stopped being itchy. As well as it cleaned, I think I might be allergic to one of the ingredients in the oil. It didn’t affect the rest of my face, at least in the length of time that I used it, but it made my eyelids unbearably itchy and I was starting to get red splotches. So I thought it best to discontinue use and just use my Makeup Eraser and water the remove my makeup for a while. It worked quite well, as always. I am going to have to take a long, hard look at the Mario Badescu label though in an effort to find out what it is that my eyelids just didn’t like. Whatever it is, I want to stay far away from it in the future.

This week, the focus was pulled from the skincare that worked well with no major issues to the problem children in the line up. With the cleansers acting up there was little attention paid to anything else. The other products worked well and I liked them. I will happily continue using them and next week, maybe I can focus on the effects of the good products rather than the effects of the not so fabulous for me ones. But for this week, that was my focus and this was my skincare line up.

Makeup Eraser

The Skincare Line up: October 29th, 2021

Once again Friday has arrived. And once again we look at the items currently in rotation in the Skincare line up. Interestingly enough as we go into December, I am also looking back over this years’ worth of products. There were quite a few samples I liked and wanted to try as full sized items to see if I liked them more long term or if it was just a temporary love affair. I am starting to look over the list I made so that when the Black Friday/Cyber Monday Sales hit, I can take advantage of them and pick up items I truly want to try. And of course I now want to try out some of the samples I have in my collection to see if they need to go on that list or if they just need to be cleared out to make space. It’s why this week I chose to rotate a sample moisturizer into the mix. But we’ll get to that soon enough. Are you ready to look at the line up? Good, then let’s get started

The Daytime Lineup

Deodorant: Native Deodorant Cherry and Vanilla Macaroon

Cleanser: Ren Perfect Canvas Clean Jelly Oil Cleanser

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: Vitabrid C12 Dual Drop Serum

Eye cream: Verso Super Eye Serum with Retinol 8

Moisturizer: Filorga Oxygen Glow Crème

Okay, let’s go through the list. First you may notice the deodorant is the same brand but a different scent. I used up the current stick I was using and picked up a new one. I hoped that the Peppermint would be available (both in the deodorant and the Native Body Wash) but it was not in the store when I went. The cherry and vanilla macaron scent is stronger than any other scent I’ve tried from Native and it is oddly lasting. To me it smells like Cherry pie. And I repeatedly found myself turning and thinking ‘cherry pie’ for the first few days it was startling. Now I’m kind of used to it. However this scent is much stronger than the others and doesn’t fade away quite the same which is something to keep in mind.

The Ren Cleanser. It is a good cleanser but for some reason it doesn’t like coming out of the tube. As the level of product has dropped, this has become more and more frustrating. To be honest this might be the deciding factor in whether or not I would repurchase. It is a small thing but getting the product out when my hands are damp is a twice daily frustration that I am not really fond of. It is a great cleanser. If it came out of the tube with less effort I would happily put it on a repurchase list. As it is, I’d have to think about it. While there is some product left, I think I will end up running out before the end of next week and have to rotate something else in. Honestly, I’m not too sad about that.

Crest is a brand of dental care I trust and honestly I love the gum detoxify toothpaste. It makes my mouth feel extra clean. It is from the Pro Health line and my mouth feels healthy. I will probably say this repeatedly, especially as I have no plans to replace this toothpaste with anything other than a new tube of the same product when it runs out, but I really like this toothpaste. It honestly does make a difference in the feel of my mouth.

The Murad Hydrating toner is a good one for me. In general the Hydration line usually works well for my skin. It is their Acne fighting line that I have to use with caution. It takes down the blemishes but it dries out the skin. There is no problem with it here and it backs up my cleanser well, taking off the last of anything remaining on my face from my night creams so I have a fresh face to work with as I lean into my morning skin care routine.

I am still feeling my way around the 111Skin Essence. I think because the Missha Essence was so good at taking down redness and sun damage as an extra benefit, I am having to readjust my thinking with the essence. Thus far I love the scent. It is lightly floral but feels like a high end spa. I’ll admit, it makes me feel fancy to use. There is also the feeling of my pores opening up when I use it (kind of the same feeling when you stand in a really hot shower where the steam is so thick everything is sort of obscured and you can feel your skin opening up. It’s a similar sensation.) which is good since essences are designed to open your sin in preparation for the other skincare. I’m still thinking about this essence, but thus far, I kind of like it.

I still have no idea why this vitabrid C Serum is called Dual drop. From what I can tell it is a Vitamin C serum. Which is fins, I like vitamin c serums. The name just confuses me. I like that it is a thick serum as I like the feel of it. I also like that despite its thickness, it absorbs quickly without leaving extra product on the skin to make it feel greasy. At the moment I am enjoying it. I just need to delve deeper to find out about the Dual drop name.

I am absolutely in love with the Verso eye cream. It may be the best eye cream I have tried all year. And I’ve tried some good ones this year too. This beats them all. It isn’t greasy, it absorbs well with only a tiny drop of product needed and as it is a full sized 20 ml tube it will last a really long time. Oh yeah and it takes down a larger number of the fine lines at the side of my eyes than I thought possible. I kind of want to send a thank you note to Stockholm. I’m sure companies have received stranger things in the mail, but really. I’m kind of in love with this cream.

And so we reach the moisturizer. This is a sample size that I pulled from the skincare drawer. I am only about half way through the tube so it will have a second week. The cream has a slightly floral scent but it is a light, clean skincare floral scent, if that makes sense. And while you can smell it when you dispense it out of the tube, the scent very quickly dissipates and is pretty much a non-issue. It absorbs well and isn’t greasy. I think though that it would be best described as a day cream. I might be able to get away with it as a day and night cream in the head of the summer, but now, not so much. It wouldn’t provide enough moisture for me at night in the cooler months. This week I have really enjoyed using it as a day cream and look forward to using it another week.

And so ends the day, shall we take a peek into the night?

The Nighttime Line up

Cleanser: Ren Perfect Canvas Clean Jelly Oil Cleanser

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

Toner: Neutralyze Exfoliating Pads

Essence: 111Skin Antioxidant Energizing Essence

Serum: Vitabrid C12 Dual Drop Serum

Eye cream: Verso Super Eye Serum with Retinol 8

Night Cream: Elemis Peptide 4 Plumping Pillow Facial

Lip Mask: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry

Clearly there is a lot of overlap in product usage. And really the products didn’t change much from day to night (except for the moisturizer which I swapped out for the night). So we will look at the three night time players.

The first is the Neutralyze. I like the exfoliating pads. They give a nice light exfoliation to the skin and while the blemish fighting treatment is great on the blemishes, it doesn’t dry out the rest of my skin. The serum in it is a little on the sticky side. What I like to do is use the toner pads and then give it a few minutes to settle in and work it’s magic. Then I return to the bathroom and continue with the serum. The serum knocks out all of the stickiness. I actually like the toner pads more than I like the regular serum. Don’t get me wrong I liked the serum as well and when I had break outs, it actually worked better. It was just a lot stickier and required at least an hour to settle before I could lay down to sleep. I will say that at the moment I have fewer blemishes and clogged pores than I have had in a while. While I generally only get hormonal break outs (and currently have one on my chin, just for fun) I am more prone to clogged pores that just give me strange areas so rough texture that kind of drive me nuts. At the moment I have significantly less of them. I think part of that is the daily mask from Healing Bark, but I think part of it may be down to the neutralize clearing out some of the clogged pores. As we enter the season of richer food, I think I will keep these pads on hand to help my skin out as needed. I don’t think they will remain a consistent part of my regime as I simply don’t get consistent break outs, but I will be keeping them on hand for when I do.

Elemis, oh Elemis. This is one of those brands where the products never cause me issues. Sometimes a few of their products are a bit strong in scent, but they work so well I am willing to ignore that. This plumping pillow facial has a lightly floral scent that smells more clean and fresh than cloying. It kind of reminds me of the lavender sachets my grandmother used to put under the pillows and in the chest of drawers. Only fresher and with a creamy feel to the scent.

This is technically speaking a night mask. However I have had a run of moisturizers that while they work as day cream, just don’t cut it at night. If using it as a mask, this cream is one I would use only a couple of times a week. I have been using it nightly in place of night cream. I have found I need significantly less. Which is fine with me. I am more than happy to stretch the use of an expensive product I like using over a longer length of time. However that time is coming to an end. I may be able to use the rest of this jar over the weekend but by Monday I will need to find a new product to use. I honestly did love this and would repurchase it in a heartbeat, either to use as a nightly skin treat or as a night mask a couple of times a week. It was a light weight moisturizer that didn’t clog my pores and didn’t weigh down the skin. It was quite honestly fabulous and I am sad to see it go. But rest assured, it will return.

Last week I forgot my lip mask and my lip balm from my desk went MIA. This week, I rolled located one of my Jersey Shore Cosmetics Lip balms and placed it on the desk and at night I used the Laneige lip mask every night. No more dry chapped lips. I know there will come a point mid-winter where the chapped lips are unavoidable, but I figure if I can hit the inevitable chapping spot with my lips in as good a condition as I can manage then there will be less pain and the chapping will be less. I like the mask. It is the second Laneige lip mask I’ve had. Oddly enough the other one was also Berry. While the berry is nice, I would like to try out different scents. It will be a while before I get there though as this jar of mask will last the better part of a year. I’m okay with that as it is value for my money and it is a lip mask that works amazingly well. I just wouldn’t mind trying a new scent the next time I pick up a lip mask.

And that my darlings is this week’s skincare line up. It was, for the most part positive. There will be a few changes next week and starting next week, as November gets rolling I will be looking back at some of my favorites throughout the year in an attempt to square away my own thoughts as to upcoming Black Friday Purchases. I know, more excuses to talk about skin care. I can hardly wait.

Good morning my darlings and welcome to the weekly skincare line up. Here I get to chat briefly each week about the products I’m using and how I feel about them. For me this helps me actually figure out what is working, what I like and what is really just not good for my skin. I hope you find it helpful, or at least entertaining as well. So let’s dive in and see what we have this week.

The Daytime Line Up

Deodorant: Native Blackberry and Green Tea Deodorant

Cleanser: Ren Clean Skincare Perfect Canvas Clean Jelly Oil Cleanser

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Essence: Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence from Missha and 111SkinAntioxident Energising Essence

Serum: Vitabrid C12 Dual Drop Serum

Moisturizer: Seed Phytonutrients Light Weight Facial Lotion

Eye cream: Verso Super eye Serum with retinol 8

Sunscreen: Shiseido Ultimate Sun protector Lotion SPF 50

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Toothpaste

Okay this week I am still using the Native deodorant and it is still working well. Admittedly now that the temperatures have lowered, it doesn’t have to work quite as hard as it did before. I am almost at the tail end of the product so I will be picking up a new deodorant this week. I’m kind of hoping that they have the holiday scents out already. Last year I tried two, Peppermint, which loved and hope to buy again and Sugar Cookie which was interesting to try, but will not be making a repeat appearance. There was something off about the sugar cookie scent in a deodorant. At least for me.

The Ren cleanser is proving interesting. It cleans the skin really well and actually it is pretty good at removing makeup as well. But the clear gel formula is surprisingly difficult to get out of the bottle. You can’t squeeze the tube in the middle, you have to squeeze at the top and push the product down to the exit. I know that sounds really picky, but generally i wet my face then reach for the cleanser so I almost always have wet hands, and it is a slick tube. To use this I wet my face, then dry my hands, then reach for the cleanser. I like the product, but honestly, I don’t like how it dispenses, which honestly could prevent me from buying it again.

This week I finished the last of my Time Revolution Essence from Missha. I loved it, I used it, I reordered it and put it in the medicine cabinet where my babydoll will hopefully reach for it when he needs it. If I call it skincare, he won’t touch it. If I say it is designed to calm redness and put it in the medicine cabinet, he will reach for it. Sometimes perception is all.

So with the bottle in my skincare line up now empty, I rolled in the 111Skin Essence. I love the scent. It is refreshing and spa like. As my baby would say, ‘It smells fancy.’ And honestly I feel fancy using it. I’ve only used it for a couple of days but thus far it seems to be working well as a pore opening essence, which is sort of the point of an essence. I am happy to continue using it.

This week I am happy to say that I have finished the Seed Phytoneutriants lotion. I may have used the last little bit of moisturizer on my arms and hands as body lotion just so I could finish it up and not have to use it anymore this week. It is a good lightweight moisturizer. With the weather changing it is actually becoming a little too light weight for me. I have to admit that wasn’t why I used it up as boy lotion though. That was because I really wanted to just be done with it. While it is a good product it smells like damp hemp rope that has been molding in the back of the shed. At least that is the scent I get. I generally don’t mind the scent of hemp or CBD but for some reason this just got to me. I used it, I liked it and I am happy to let it go. I will not be repurchasing it.

I also won’t be repurchasing the Shiseido Sunscreen. As a brand I like Shiesido. In fact I have one of their moisturizers on my repurchase list. It is one I look for when the black Friday sales hit. But this sunscreen had too heavy a perfume for me. And it was a perfume scent that lingered. I used the last of the sample bottle this week, but I am very happy it is now empty. It is a great product and absorbs well, but for me the scent killed it.

The Night time line Up

Makeup Remover: Makeup Eraser Cloth

Cleanser: Ren Clean Skincare Perfect Canvas Clean Jelly Oil Cleanser

Toner: Neutralyze exfoliation Toner Pads

Essence: Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence from Missha (Gifted by brand)

Serum: Vitabrid C 12 Dual Drop Serum

Eye Cream: Verso Super Eye Serum

Lips: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry

Night Mask: Elemis Peptide 4 Plumping Pillow Facial

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

This week my body sort of purged all of the excess grease and sugar that I consumed last weekend while we had company visiting, so my skin wasn’t looking it’s best. I will say that once the blemishes started to rise, the Neutralyze toner pads really came in hand. I focused on the areas where problems usually arise, however I did use them all over my face. I was very pleased that while it helped me tame the blemishes, it also didn’t dry out my skin in the places where I wasn’t breaking out. I was very impressed by that.

This week i also got a lesson in taking care of my lips. This week the Laneige Sleeping mask ended up placed behind other products and I forgot to use it. The wind has been blowing the air is dryer and my lips are actually starting to chap. I forgot completely about the sleep mask until I took the pictures for this post. So this week, I am going to see if a week of use can banish the chapping from the week of not using the mask. It didn’t help that the lip balm on my desk was swiped so i didn’t have it to hand. I keep it on my desk because if i see it, I will fiddle with it and apply it. It stops chap from happening. With the lip balm MIA I forgot about it. I also think the plumping gloss I used this week didn’t really help. I’m not sure, but I suspect.

Everything else in my list is either chugging along nicely or hasn’t been used long enough for me to get too much of an idea of whether it is effective of not. All of it feels good and this week I will be rolling in a new moisturizer. I’m not certain if i will roll in a full size or see about using up some of the samples. I’ll have to see what I feel like when I go to the skincare drawer tonight to set the line up for the morning. For now, these are the active products on my list.

The Skincare Line up: October 15th, 2021

And so another week of skincare comes to an end. This week the line up looks a bit different than last week. I had several products reach the end of their lives and I had some others roll into the line up. I was able to stagger them so not all products started on the same day. I generally find that having at least a day between adding products into the line up really helps keep my skin from freaking out. So let’s see what changed this week.

The Daytime Line Up

Deodorant: Native Blackberry and Green Tea Deodorant

Cleanser: Ren Clean Skincare Perfect Canvas Clean Jelly Oil Cleanser

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Essence: Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence from Missha

Serum: Vitabrid C12 Dual Drop Serum

Moisturizer: Seed Phytonutrients Light Weight Facial Lotion

Eye cream: Verso Super eye Serum with retinol 8

Sunscreen: Shiseido Ultimate Sun protector Lotion SPF 50

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Toothpaste

While I was sad to finish up the Annmarie Cleanser and Serum, both of which will be coming back to me at some point, I was happy to try out two new items. I have seen Ren products around and I’ve heard of them for quite a while but this was my first experience with a Ren product. This cleanser comes out as a clear gel and has a quite lovely scent actually. The scent is slightly almond-y and reminds me a bit of marzipan. It doesn’t smell as sweet so I still felt like i was getting a good fresh clean. I liked how it performed this week and am happy to keep using it. It was a bit harder to squeeze out of the tube than I thought it would be. The formula was nice though so the first week was a success.

Actually most of the new products had a good first week.

The Vitabrid C12 Serum is nice. I really like having vitamin C in my line up so i am very happy with a vitamin c forward serum. My skin absorbed the serum well and I really liked the thick consistency of it. I’m not a fan of watery serums. This one had some body to it and while a week won’t show you much difference, I think my skin might just be a little bit brighter. Even if that is my imagination,. I am happy to continue using it.

This week also saw the arrival of a new eye cream. This is the Verso Super Eye serum with Retinol 8. I know I am a big believer in letting skincare settle in and work over time and not looking for immediate results, but i have to say I was very pleased with my eyes this week. In the daily posts when i take close up pictures of my eyes, I actually did notice an improvement in the fine lines around my eyes. So I am cautiously pleased with this eye cream. Time will tell if there is actual lasting benefits, but at the moment I am very pleased with this in my line up.

And then we come to the sunscreen. And I am sad to say there is a minor hiccup. I love the formula. I love the way it applies and I love how easily it blends into the skin. I love that I had no clogged pores. Do you know what i don’t love? Can you guess? That’s right, the scent. This sunscreen is so perfume-y that I didn’t really want to wear it. It isn’t just perfume-y, but it is a scent that lasts. It doesn’t dissipate after the sunscreen is applied, the scent lingers. The bottle was completely full and after a week of use the sample bottle is about half empty so I will use this a second week, but because of the scent i won’t be buying a full size. Which is a real shame. It is a great product and if it came in an unscented variety I would snap it up. I may look for an unscented variety, but this one is far too scented for me. This one I will use and let go. But it was good enough that I will fight though the second week to continue using it and I will comb through the Shishido sight to see if an unscented version is available.

The Night time line Up

Makeup Remover: Makeup Eraser Cloth

Cleanser: Ren Clean Skincare Perfect Canvas Clean Jelly Oil Cleanser

Toner: Neutralyze exfoliation Toner Pads

Essence: Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence from Missha (Gifted by brand)

Serum: Vitabrid C 12 Dual Drop Serum

Eye Cream: Verso Super Eye Serum

Lips: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry

Night Mask: Elemis Peptide 4 Plumping Pillow Facial

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

This week many of the products that I used in the morning I also went with at night. At the moment few of the products I am using are sample size so I thought it better to just focus on the full sized items. I might add an extra serum next week, but for the moment I am good with the Vitabrid C12 serum. I think I’ll wait until I really know how it performs before seeing about additions.

That leaves the one new item in the night as the Neutralyze toner pads. I was very impressed with them this week. I think I actually like these more than I like the serum (and I liked the serum quite a bit.) The toner pads have a serum on them as well and I think it is very similar to the serum, however because they are exfoliating toner pads, the serum isn’t quite as sticky. It is still a little sticky, which is why I used them at night. However I do have fewer clogged pores and this is the time of month where I generally get hormonal breakouts. Yet, no current break outs and fewer clogged pores. So I am very pleased to be using this right now. It is it’s first week of use but thus far it is holding its own. My skin has no dried out spots and my problem areas aren’t much of a problem at the moment. which is always a nice thing to say.

Again it is a new to the line up product, so I’ll have to see how it performs over time but week one was pretty smooth. Hopefully it will continue the good work. I love when i can say nice things about products.

Admittedly I still have to give this week’s MVP status to the Verso Super Eye Serum. I really like the way the fine lines around my eyes look. Or rather don’t look since several of them aren’t visible. That is a result I am quite happy with.

And that was this week’s line up. It was shorter than usual as I am now using most of the same products in both the morning and the evening. And of course the newer products are still in the first stages of trial. As all the existing products in the line up are really doing well there isn’t much to say about them.

The Skincare Line Up: October 8th, 2021

Good morning and welcome to another week of skin care. This week was really interesting as I have several products that are almost down to empty, but not quite there. Some have a couple of more days left on them, others might last another week. It is really going to be fun to see as a lot of products are rolling off of the line up in the near future. So lets get started and see what we have shall we?

The Daytime Line Up

Deodorant: Native Blackberry and Green Tea Deodorant

Cleanser: Annmarie Skincare Aloe Herb Cleanser (use code FALL25 for 25% off)

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Essence: Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence from Missha

Serum: Annmarie Skincare Anti Aging Serum (usually $60, currently $45 on sale)

Moisturizer: Seed Phytonutrients Light Weight Facial Lotion

Eyecream: Clarins Paris Total Eye Lift

Sunscreen: Volition Prismatic Luminizing Shield in SPF 50

Facial Spray: Caudalie Beauty Elixir

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Toothpaste

Okay lets just start at the top of the list and work our way down shall we? The Native Blackberry and Green tea deodorant smells like blackberries and green tea when you sniff the product, but the scent is almost completely MIA when you apply it. If you are sweating heavily there is the possibility of pit stains, but there is never any stink factor. It works, just remember it is not an antiperspirant. It is close to reaching the end of its life. I may have two weeks left on it thought so it is one of the few products that i will not be replacing in this coming week.

I fear i will be finishing up both the Aloe Herb Cleanser and the Anti Aging Serum from Annmarie skincare. They are both great products and I know this is not the last time they will make it into the skincare line up. I love the fresh clean herbal scent of them both. The cleanser has a lemon verbena scent while the serum leans towards rosemary. Both are lovely and are especially excellent in the morning as they both have the kind of scents that wake you up. Both are available in their samples bundles.

If you are interested in trying out the skincare before committing to a full size, I highly recommend Annmarie’s sample bundles. It is a great cost effective way to find out what you like and what you don’t like about a brand. I have found many favorites this way. But now I have to let them go. There is maybe three days worth of cleanser left and I’m pretty sure I will end up using the last drops of serum in the morning. So it is farewell to both, although there will most definitely be a return.

The Murad toner is a really good toner. I am only about a third of the way through the bottle so it will be sticking around for a bit longer. I really like the elements from the Hydration line of Murad. They tend to suit my skin type and are especially helpful as the seasons change and I need to adjust to my seasonal skin changes. It really helps to balance things out.

If you look at the above picture you may notice that the Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence is a bit lower than it should be. This week my babydoll had some skin irritation issues so he ended up using it as well as I did. And so it is disappearing pretty fast. Even though this one was sent by the brand, I have already reordered another bottle, just to keep around. Whether you use essences regularly or not, this isn’t a bad product to keep around just to deal with skin irritation. It really helps with both the soothing and redness aspect. I am a big fan of it. I suspect that we may end up keeping a bottle of this in out medicine cabinet. I know that sounds a bit strange, but my babydoll isn’t a huge fan of skincare in general so getting him to use a product is often difficult, however if the same skin care product is stored in the medicine cabinet, he doesn’t think twice about using it. I know, it’s a little bit of trickery, but it works. And sometimes, you just have to use what works. It’s like putting cheese sauce on broccoli.

Next up we have two products that give my nose issues. One is the Seed Moisturizer. it works well and my skin loves it but it smells like wet and slightly moldy hemp rope. Normally i don’t have an issue with the scent of hemp but there is just something in this that i don’t like. I am only about half way through the bottle and I plan to finished using it up, but as good as it feels on my skin, i will be happy when it is done and i will not be repurchasing it.

The scent of the Caudalie is also not my favorite. It smells a little like mothballs. However it is one of the best facial sprays I have tried. My skin always feels so nourished when I use it, scent or not. I always reach a point with the Caudalie elixir. I get to the point where I just want to use it up and get it out and I am always relived not to smell it when it is gone. Then a few months will pass and I will remember how much my skin really liked it. So I will order it again, use it again and then once again reach the point where I can’t take the scent. If this had a different scent, I would order it before I ran out and always keep it on hand. But by the end of the bottle, I need a break from the scent (and yes, I only buy the travel sized bottles) Something really need to be taken in moderation. I don’t know if you can see what is in the bottle, but the remaining product will be gone before the weekend is over. There is both relief and sadness. And a wish for a different scent.

My eye cream this week was frustrating. Since eye cream takes so little to apply, I had high hopes for this little tube of Clarins to last a bit longer. Using it morning and night I started it last Saturday and used the last of it yesterday. It seems to be a really good cream. My skin liked it. It absorbed well and didn’t leave me feeling greasy. there were no clogged pores. I just didn’t use it long enough to really see any results. Would i use it again? Sure. What i used seemed to be pretty nice. But now the sample is empty and a new eye cream must be tried.

Also pretty much empty is the Volition sunscreen. It is a great weightless sunscreen. There is really no gap in use though as the last time i bought sunscreen i went ahead and picked up several tubes. I do want to use up a couple of samples though, so I may use them up before I open up a new tube of the Volition sunscreen. Rest assure, it is not going to be gone for long.

And to round up the morning we have my Crest Gum Detoxify. My dentist recommended it, my teeth feel clean and my breath is fabulous. What else is there to say?

The Night time line Up

Makeup Remover: Makeup Eraser Cloth

Cleanser: Rodial Dragon’s Blood Cleansing water and Cliv Premium Max Hyaluronic Propolis Foaming Cleanser

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Essence: Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence from Missha (Gifted by brand)

Serum: Herbal Dynamics Beauty Hyaluronic Acid62% Hydrating Serum

Acne Treatment and Moisturizer: Neutralyze Renewal Complex Blemish Control and anti-aging moisturizing cream

Eye Cream: Clarins Paris Total Eye Lift

Lips: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry

Night Mask: Elemis Peptide 4 Plumping Pillow Facial

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

Okay, lets take a look at the non repeat night time products shall we? First off I love my Makeup Eraser. Right now it looks a little bad, but it is going into the wash this afternoon and it will be as good as new. I really want to get a set of the smaller cloths so I can use one a day and thus always have a clean make up eraser, but as the one i have is in such good shape I just haven’t broken down and done it yet. I need to though. But for now, this is fabulous. I’ve had this one well over a year and no matter what it looks like going into the wash, it always comes out looking like new.

Breast Cancer Awareness month – 10% of each ‘Boobies’ sale will benefit the Edith Sanford Foundation at MakeUpEraser.com

The Rodial Dragon’s Blood Cleansing Water works like any other micellar water. It is no better or worse than any of the others I’ve tried. While i like micellar waters, I didn’t notice anything that would make me buy this one over any other. I think there is enough for a week in the bottle so I will probably use it up this week and then not repurchase. I will purchase micellar waters again, just not this one.

Something else i will not be purchasing in the full size is the Clive Cleanser. To give it it’s due, it is a nice creamy cleanser that goes on well and stays in place like a cream until you add water to foam it up and wash your face. It smells like straight up perfume. I know it cleansed and I could feel my clean skin, but the scent did not make me think clean. it made me think I just splashed a rather cloying perfume on my face .I know it has all sorts of things I like, but it is still a hard no for me based on that scent.

The Herbal Dynamics Beauty I love. It is a fantastic serum. I was getting some sun sensitivity, so I switched to only using it at night and the issue was resolved. It is almost gone and it will be very hard not to immediately reorder it. Only the fact that i have several other serums I need to try out is keeping me from immediately repurchasing this serum. It has really helped with my fine lines, especially the giant line across my forehead that I refer to as my stress crack. It is still there as nothing is going to remove it, but it is more of a line than a canyon. I love this serum.

The Neutralyze has also impressed me. I am currently using it as a spot treatment in the areas where I tend to get clogged pores. It has helped clear away several of those clogged pores and kept them from getting clogged again. And all without over drying the skin. I found this very impressive. It is on the sticky side though, so when you apply it, put it on and then let it sit. Give it at least an hour before you apply your night cream and go to bed and all is well. If you don’t give it this time you will stick yourself to your pillow case. So take your time.

While there is still plenty of product in the bottle, I am going to rotate it out this week so that I can give another Neutralyze product a try out. The brand sent over several products for me to try out. So next week I will be trying out their exfoliation pads to see how they work. it will be interesting to see the differences in the formulas and if the serum is as sticky or if it dries the skin more. I am actually looking forward to it.

My Elemis Pillow Facial has been fabulous. Becuase I am using it more as a night cream than a mask, I need very little of it so there is still plenty of product. It is slightly floral in nature but it is a light fresh scent that smells like lightly floral skincare rather than perfume. Oddly i felt cleaner after applying this than I did when using the cleanser. Plus it is Elemis and you know I am a huge Elemis fan.

And finally we reach the lips. To be honest, I forgot to apply this lip mask most of the week. It slipped behind some of my day time skin care and I didn’t see it. So I forgot to apply it. My lips aren’t that bad, but i can certainly feel the difference. They are a bit dry and I feel the need of both a lip scrub and a lip mask. I will probably roll in a lip scrub this week, just because i need one. Usually I only use them in the winter as just applying the lip mask is all I really need. But I skipped the lip mask and now need the scrub.

Lesson Learned.

So my darlings that was this week in skin care. For many of the products in this week’s line up this was their last showing. Some will return and others will not. Either way i will be rotating in several new products this week. Isn’t that exciting? Well as exciting as I really want my skincare to get anyway. Let’s hope we get some good products and no skin irritation. that’s the sort of excitement I can live without.

LovelySkin

The Skincare Lineup: October 1st, 2021

Ah Friday, the day I get to indulge my love of skincare and talk everyone’s ear off. I do try to control myself. Not everyone needs to know my love of hyaluronic acid. Or do they? I don’t know, perhaps it may help. And isn’t that what this is all about?

The Daytime Line Up

Deodorant: Native Blackberry and Green Tea Deodorant

Cleanser: Annmarie Skincare Aloe Herb Cleanser (use code FALL25 for 25% off)

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Essence: Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence from Missha

Serum: Annmarie Skincare Anti Aging Serum (usually $60, currently $45 on sale)

Moisturizer: Seed Phytonutrients Light Weight Facial Lotion

Sunscreen: Volition Prismatic Luminizing Shield in SPF 50

Facial Spray: Caudalie Beauty Elixir

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Toothpaste

Okay, let’s kick off with a most egregious error on my part. Looking through this list you may not notice anything strange, but something is missing. It is the eye cream. I finished the ESPA eye cream and didn’t add in a new product. The reason is that once I finished it I thought – I need to add this onto my list of products I want to repurchase. At the moment I have quite a few eye creams to go through as subscription boxes went eye cream crazy for a bit, so it will be a while before I get around to reordering. The ESPA eye cream is one that tops the list though.

So, since I didn’t have a pen and paper with me I set the tube back on the skin care shelf to come back to later instead of putting it with the empties. And then I left it there. I picked it up periodically throughout the week and then set the empty back down thinking – that’s right I need to add it to the list. It is now on the list, and a new product will be added next week.

To be honest that is really the only change in the morning line up. I have about a week left on the Annmarie serum and I am already dreading running out. Even though the serum is a little thicker than i would expect it absorbs really well and my skin looks really good because of it. It is one of those serums that I just love to use. It has a nice herbal scent and it just plain feels good on the skin.

I did notice something interesting with the Missha Time Revolution essence this week. The lower the essence drops in the bottle, the more comes out of the top when I dispense it into my hand. I think that happens because the product falls through the empty portion of the bottle to smack into the dispenser top with more force now that there is less product in the bottle. I am trying to remember to turn it up gently so the product is against the dispenser cap before I shake it into my hand. This dispenses less and will make it last longer. And I am all for making this essence last longer. With the weather change I have been spending more time outside and even though I still use my lovely Volition Sunscreen, it is a lot of sun on my skin. The essence really helps calm my skin after too much sun. Or irritation of any sort actually. It really is just good to have around, as well as being part of my skincare line up.

Even when i ignore gravity and shake out more than I need, I just apply the essence to my neck and upper chest so it is all goo. Just something I thought was interesting. And something I didn’t even think about before the product dropped lower in the bottle.

The Night time line Up

Makeup Remover: Makeup Eraser Cloth

Cleanser: Rodial Dragon’s Blood Cleansing water and Moisture Boost Gel to Water Cleanser by Tony Moly

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Essence: Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence from Missha (Gifted by brand)

Serum: Herbal Dynamics Beauty Hyaluronic Acid62% Hydrating Serum

Acne Treatment and Moisturizer: Neutralyze Renewal Complex Blemish Control and anti-aging moisturizing cream

Lips: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry

Night Mask: Elemis Peptide 4 Plumping Pillow Facial

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

This week the night time line up had two changes. One was the use of a sample sized cleanser from Tony Moly. It is simply called Moisture Boost. It is a gel to Water cleanser and as expected it comes out as a clear gel that melts to a liquid with the heat of your palm. It s scent is slightly reminiscent of a citrus scented hand sanitizer. The citrus is very light and faint though. It doesn’t really foam. And I;ll be honest, while that isn’t technically necessary, I like my cleansers to foam.

While my skin did feel clean, this isn’t the best cleanser for getting makeup off. It suggests morning use and I think that is because it really isn’t good at removing makeup. For makeup removal I just relied mostly on my Makeup Eraser followed by the Micellar water. this cleanser was mostly a follow up more so i could test it out rather than because it was removing anything but the last bits of makeup remains.

The other change was in the Neutralyze. At the moment I am using it as a spot treatment for my trouble zones rather than spread a layer over my entire face. I really think it is helping in the areas where I tend to get a lot of clogged pores. I’ve noticed fewer clogs if nothing else. I’m trying to avoid using my Herbal Dynamics Beauty Chamomile and Cacao Clearing Mask at the moment so that I can see if the Neutralyze can work them out and thus far I think it does seem to be doing some good. Pictures are hard to take of it as the clogged pores are more of a texture than anything else so it is really hard to see. But the bumps are receeding. Or being removed I suppose would be a better term.

The cream is very sticky though so if using it, remember to apply it at least an hour before going to bed otherwise you will feel like you are velcro-ed to the pillow case. Give it its time to sink in and do its job. After all the pillow case doesn’t have any clogged pores it needs to get rid of, why should it take a share of your treatment?

And so my darlings that is it for this week’s skincare line up. There weren’t many changes but I think I have several products that might at best make it to the end of next week before new products need to be rotated in to fill the gaps. So change is coming. And as soon as this posts, I am writing down the details of the ESPA eye cream and I am putting a new cream to try into the bathroom. Promise.

The Skincare Line Up: September 24th, 2021

Good morning my darlings and welcome to the weekly skincare line up. Here we discuss all of the products currently in motion in my line up. This week there isn’t a whole lot of change, but as many of you may recall from the recent posts, the weather is starting to change where I live and the products will do the same. Well, some of them. I have a couple of products I have actually been holding off trying out because I knew it was the wrong time of year for them and soon, soon they will be brought to the light. But let us first look at what we’ve got going on right now shall we?

The Daytime Line Up

Deodorant: Native Blackberry and Green Tea Deodorant

Cleanser: Annmarie Skincare Aloe Herb Cleanser (use code FALL25 for 25% off)

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Essence: Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence from Missha

Serum: Annmarie Skincare Anti Aging Serum (usually $60, currently $45 on sale)

Eye Cream: ESPA 24 Hour Replenishing Eye Moisturizer

Moisturizer: Seed Phytonutrients Light Weight Facial Lotion

Sunscreen: Volition Prismatic Luminizing Shield in SPF 50

Facial Spray: Caudalie Beauty Elixir

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Toothpaste

Okay lets take a look at the line up. The Native deodorant is doing very well. This week there was not a lot of exercise due to rain and when I finally did get out and walk, the weather was cool enough that the deodorant was not put to the ultimate test. I think from here until Spring the deodorant can more or less coast.

There were two Annmarie skincare products in the morning line up. the first is the Aloe Herb Cleanser. It has a bright lemon verbena scent that just really suits the morning. It is a good gentle clean that really takes off the remnants of my night time treatments and just leaves me with good clean skin and a scent that wakes me up. it is the scent that makes me want to use it in the morning as to me it is more of a wake up scent then a get ready for bed one, so that’s how I use it.

As for the Annmarie Serum, that too has a nice wake up and shine herbal scent to it although this has a bit more rosemary in it I think. The serum is thick, but it absorbs fairly quickly. Only a little bit is needed so I am only about half way through the sample sized bottle of the anti-aging serum. My skin loves it and I am happy to use out the rest of the bottle and add it to my repurchasing in the future list.

This week I didn’t find myself reaching for the toner in the morning. I’m not entirely certain why. I used it at night, but not during the day. I enjoyed the Missha Time Revolution essence though. even without the need to do sun damage repair. My skin drank it in and then the serums went on top. It worked very nicely and I really enjoy the product.

The ESPA eye cream I love as well but my sample size is almost out. I may be able to squeak out a use tonight, but tomorrow morning a new eye cream will have to be opened. While I like trying new things I am very sad to see this one emptied as it worked really well for my skin. I saw a reduction in the fine lines around my eyes and it is definitely a repeat purchase for me. The purchase will have to hold off for a while though as I have many eye cream samples to work my way through. For a time it seemed like i was getting eye creams in every subscription. Now of course they’ve tapered off. I’m sure in a month or so it will be a different product that seems to be flooding the subscription boxes. But such is life. For now, I have plenty of eye creams to use, but when I do get around to buying more, the ESPA one is actually the top of my list.

Now to the Seed moisturizer. It is a nice bottle and I love the pump. It is a great lightweight day cream. My skin likes it. My nose does not. It smells like damp hemp rope that has been sitting in the heat in the back of the shed for too long. The scent does fade after you apply it. I am pretty sure my nose can take using it until the bottle is empty, but I don’t think I would repurchase it. There are other products that work just as well, if not better, that my nose doesn’t mind my skin using. I would lean more towards repurchasing them than I would this. It is just a good light weight moisturizer though.

The Night time line Up

Makeup Remover: Makeup Eraser Cloth

Cleanser: Rodial Dragon’s Blood Cleansing water and Comfort Zone Remedy Cream to oil Ultra Gentle Cleanser

Toner: Murad Hydrating Toner

Essence: Time Revolution Artemisia Treatment Essence from Missha (Gifted by brand)

Serum: Herbal Dynamics Beauty Hyaluronic Acid62% Hydrating Serum

Acne Treatment and Moisturizer: Neutralyze Renewal Complex Blemish Control and anti-aging moisturizing cream

Lips: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask in Berry

Night Mask: Elemis Peptide 4 Plumping Pillow Facial

Toothpaste: Crest Gum Detoxify Deep Clean

Okay, this week I mostly used the Makeup Eraser to take off my makeup. I then went in with the Rodial Draggon’s Blood Cleansing water and a reusable round to take off anything remaining. The Rodail works like any other Micellar water. To be honest i see no difference between it and any other micellar water I’ve tried. There are Rodial products that I would certainly spent the extra money on, but this cleansing water isn’t one of them. It is good, it just isn’t better than any other micellar water. Now if we were talking about the Rodial Sculpting gel it would be a different story. I LOVE that stuff and snap it up in any size. I’ve actually got a could of sample sizes in my skin care drawer waiting for me to use them. That is worth the Rodial price. This water, is not.

This week I also used the Comfort Zone gentle cleanser. It falls into the okay category for me. It is fine. There is no real scent to it and if cleanses the skin without a lot of residue but now that the sample is done, I probably won’t think about it again. It gets the job done, but it isn’t something I’d look for.

The Herbal Dynamics Beauty Hyaluronic serum I love. i am much happier with using it only at night. I don’t know if it was the cause of sun sensitivity or if it was another product, but I have no issues with it at night. I only need one pump for my face so that is what I am using. I am just below the half way mark on the bottle and already contemplating ordering a replacement. I’m trying to resist as I have several more serums I want to try out, but it is really hard since it is such a great serum.

And now we come to the Neutralyze. I am going to have to write a full post to do this product justice. It knocked my breakouts out very quickly. I have never had such breakouts cleared away this quickly before. I was very impressed. It is definitely going in my once a month product usage, but I am still using it for spot treatments on certain areas of my face and I thus far haven’t had any issues with the over drying of the skin.

Part of that may be the Caudalie Spray. My skin loves the elixer, but my nose isn’t a fan of the scent. Knowing it is good for me, especially when I am using a potentially drying acne cream, I go ahead and use it. if it had a different scent I would use it more, but i content myself with using it only as long as I use the salicylic acid based products. Great product, very medicinal scent.

Using the Elemis Pillow facial has helped as well. Because I have to use the Neutralyze at least an hour before bed, I have been applying a light layer of the Elemis just before bed and it has worked really well. Over all I am really pleased with the combination of products.

So that was this week in skin care. Some of the products weren’t my favorites, others are on the repeat purchase list. I’ve used up one of my sample cleansers and finished out a fabulous eye cream. All in all, not a bad week.

Okay this was an interesting one.  Some of the changes are tied to the changes I made at night, but lets go through the day time line up.  There is of course the deodorant.  It is a good Deodorant and  even though I used a Dove product for a few weeks in there, I have officially used the native Deodorant for a year (A year was up at the end of August but in the spirit of fairness for the two weeks I tried something else we will call it a year now.) Over all the deodorant did well throughout the year.  There were some stretches of summer where I was only okay with the Native Deodorant because I was walking by myself and there was no interaction with other people needed. In the height of summer I think that if I am going to spend more day time hours with people I would need a pack up antiperspirant.  Some of the sweat circles were a little bit over the top.  But there was no stink. And that is the point of deodorant.

I had three days left of the Korres Foaming cleanser and then it ran out.  I love the Korres and will happily buy it repeatedly.  Great brand, Great product.  And when it ran out I rolled in another great product from a great brand.  This is the Aloe Herb Cleaner from Annmarie Skincare.

Some of you who have read my posts for a while (or looked through my older posts) may remember this one.  The cleanser smells like Lemon Verbena.  And not like an artificial lemon herb scent.  It smells like you went outside and ran your fingers through lemon verbena and crushed the stems to your fingers. I have to admit, I am a sucker for this scent.  While I do like most Annmarie skincare products and treat myself once a year to one of their jarred masks as my personal treat to myself, if I was told there was only one product I could buy from them it would be this cleanser.

It’s the scent.  And in the morning it is the perfect cleanser.  Right now it is actually perfect for morning use.  I am using the Elemis Night mask as my just before bed moisturizing mask, but about an hour or two before I am spot treating my break out areas with the Neautralyze cream (more on that in night time skin care).  This cleanser really helps remove the mask and treatment remnants so that I can be fresh for my morning skincare.

And right now my morning skin care includes the Anti-aging Serum from Annmarie as well.  It is intensely herbal and slightly thick to the touch.  Only very little is actually needed and it absorbs into the skin really well.  Because my bottle comes from one of their sample kits, it is just a little open mouthed bottle so I rotated in a dropper saved from another product to use with it so that no product gets wasted.

This week I rotated in the Seed Moisturizer.  I have to say I am really on the fence about this one.  It smells like stale wet hemp rope.  Like you got a rope soaking wet, curled it up and stuck it in the shadowy part of the shed where it never really dried out and the water gets that stale scent to it?  That’s what the moisturizer smells like.  It isn’t pleasant.  It feels fantastic on the skin though.  I use two pumps to cover face and neck and the cream just absorbs in without making me feel greasy.  It is definitely a day cream.  It doesn’t have enough moisture for me at night.  I also think that once the weather turns it will be too light for me to use.  I am drier in the winter and will need a stouter cream.  In the warmer temps it is great.  I just have to see if I can get past the scent of it to use it on a regular basis.

This week I rolled in a trial size sample of the PCA Skin sunscreen.  There is no scent to it, which is nice.  The directions claim that you need fifteen minutes between application and sun exposure.  I tend to put the sunscreen on after my moisturizer has absorbed.  It does take a little while to sink in and there is a little bit of a white cast for about ten minutes.  By the time there is no white cast, you are generally at the fifteen minute make and can go outside.  I would recommend waiting those fifteen minutes at least before applying makeup.  Once the white is gone and the skin is no longer shiny, then you are ready to put on makeup products or just go outside. Just give it the time and it is a lovely product. It is certainly one I wouldn’t mind using again.

The final change you may have noticed in the day time is the Caudalie Skin Elixir.  This is one of those products that I roll in and out of use.  I really should use it consistently because my skin loves it, but honestly there is a scent issue.  It smells a bit like camphor.  And I just can’t take the scent everyday, so I shift this elixir into the ‘when I know I need it’ category.  And when I know I need it is when I am using an acne treatment that is heavy in the salicylic acid.  That stuff works really well on my break outs but it tends to dry out the skin around it.  The Caudalie Spray is great for all of my skin, but especially nice on the skin around the breakouts that dries out due to proximity issues.  The spray gets everything.  In truth I really should use it every day regardless,  and if it had a different scent I would, but the scent means that I treat it like medicine and take it when it is needed. But it is good stuff.

Okay we’ll start with a quick note about cleansers.  I’ve been using the Makeup Eraser to remove makeup.  I then go in with the Rodial cleansing water which helps get the rest of the makeup off.  Even after that I feel as though I need to wash my face.  I probably don’t, but I feel as though I do.  This week I used the Annmarie Aloe Herb Cleanser and loved it.  The scent is more of a wake me up scent though and it doesn’t really foam.  It doesn’t have to but at night I find I like foaming cleansers.  It is a personal choice. So I am going to keep the Annmarie cleanser in the morning and rotate in a second cleanser for the night time.

What can I say, the bubbles make me feel clean.

Plus I have several samples I want to use up so, why not?

I am very happy with the move of the Herbal Dynamics Beauty serum to the evening instead of the morning.  The sun sensitivity has dimmed and I think that was the reason.  I’m not sure why. This isn’t the first time I’ve used this serum and it didn’t have any issues before.  Perhaps it is a combination of the serum with something else.  All I know is I am happy with the shift and will continue until the product is used up completely.

Now on to the big new ingredient.  The neutraliyze product is new to me.  I had some break outs I really wanted to take care of and it seemed the time to put it to the test.  I’ve been using it three days and thus far I have seen a big improvement.  Because it is also an anti-aging moisturizer I want to see how it performs in other aspects as well.  This far I have noticed a slight improvement in my breakouts (but it has only been three days).  When applying it, the cream is a slightly foamy cream and once on it gets a little sticky.  You need to apply it about an hour before lying down to sleep.  It needs that hour to absorb enough to lose the stickiness.  My first night I didn’t and felt Velcro-ed to my pillow. I plan to keep using it and monitor it’s performance a I go.  For now, it seems to be doing well and I’;ve realized it needs to be applied at least an hour before bed time.  I then add my Elemis night mask (thin layer) on top just before going to sleep. This far, things are going well.

I will keep you posted.  But for now, this was my week in skin care.  It is a balancing act, but at the moment, everything seems to be balancing.
